Firstly you'll want to print out the Free Printable note PDF. Have it ready for the day you would like your Christmas Elf to arrive. But wait! So, when does YOUR elf on the shelf come back? Our Elf “Boo” is not very punctual. He always hopes to get back by December 1st but sometimes it's much later than that. One year it was after December 15th. He is a busy elf, helping Santa and all. But that just helps add excitement and wonder to the season for us. We never know when he is going to show up! But, one thing for sure is he always comes AFTER the Christmas decorations are put up, so that helps get everyone in the house motivated on that project.
When does your elf on the shelf come back?
Well, I guess the official Elf Scout Return week is Nov. 23rd- December 1st. But, my personal answer to this… I think it is a unique decision for every family as to when their elf on the shelf is going to come back. My two cents out on the subject and say to all you Elf Parents out there… if your child's elf comes BEFORE Thanksgiving you are sure giving all the other elf families a hard time keeping up! Kids talk ya know! They wonder why their elf hasn't arrived yet and their friend's form school has been there since after Halloween! Let us all agree on one thing that the Elf needs to wait until after Thanksgiving. Yes, even if your home is all decorated for the season.. okey dokey Friends?
After you have printed the note…
So, after you have your Elf on the shelf printable note you will want to also locate your Elf on the shelf book if you have it. The Elf on the Shelf book is a good review at the start of the holiday season. The book tells exactly what good behaviors Santa (and parents too) are hoping for out of their children. It also goes over some friendly reminders about the job of your friendly elf on the Shelf. We have re-iterated some of the key points in the arrival letter. So no problem if you can't locate the actual book.
“You will remember there are a few rules to my stay; and a few things you must obey.
I have missed you so much. But remember not to touch.
I'm here as Santa's helpful spy; to lend a watchful eye
I will speak with Santa every night so be sure you do not fight.
Do as you should; and always be very good.”
Next, all you need to do is leave the printable note (and book) on the doorstep, the elf can ring the doorbell for a little attention but as the kids will find out in the letter he or she has already hurried off to find a place to rest until tomorrow. Santa's helper could also leave the note in the mail or under the tree.
If you want to have some extra fun with your little helper's arrival letter here you could use some spray snow and elf footprints!
Alright… now that you have the first day covered with your elf on the shelf printable note, your work is done. Dress your family in their Favorite Christmas Pajamas and get comfy for the start of this Holiday Season!
