Sweet as Apple Pie Moonshine!
The first time I tried Apple Pie Moonshine, I couldn’t believe how sweet and smooth it tasted. It was literally like eating apple pie, just with a little kick!
My cousin had made the batch of “hooch”. I tried a sip as he passed the bottle around between myself, my husband, and my brother. Everyone was enamored with the smooth taste. After a few more sips, it was becoming clear that too many sips would make it a dangerous drink.

CAUTION!
So, here is your caution! Don’t let the smooth, sweet taste fool you into a false sense of this drink not having a kick. Because it definitely has a kick! Drink Responsibly!
Recipe for Apple Pie Moonshine
My cousin had stumbled onto a great drink, and I knew I was going to need more than just a few sips. Since he was from Washington state, and getting a sample of his Apple Pie Moonshine regularly was out of the question, I was able to sweet-talk him out of the recipe.
While the general ingredients are his pride and joy, I have altered them slightly to match with my taste buds – super sweet!
Here's a quick video.
Apple Pie Moonshine Recipe
Ingredients
- 1-gallon apple cider
- ½ gallon apple juice (as close to 100% juice as I can find)
- 6 cinnamon sticks
- 2-1/2 cups sugar
- 750ml Everclear
Instructions
1. Mix sugar, cider, and juice in a large pot until completely dissolved.
2. Add cinnamon sticks and begin heating.
3. Bring just to a boil (very important), then turn down the heat and simmer for about 30 minutes.
4. Let cool slightly THEN add Everclear. Do NOT boil the Everclear.
5. Cool a little more and then bottle the apple pie moonshine. I use a large 5-gallon glass dispenser to put the liquid in to assist in bottling.
Supplies Needed
Mason Jars
750ml bottles
Quart Bottles
Lids
I have tried different things for bottling. I’ve used 2nd hand wine bottles, mason jars, quarter bottles, the leftover Everclear bottle, the leftover Cider and juice jugs, and gallon glass jugs. To tell you the truth, anything that will hold liquid will do.
My preference, I really like the quart bottles. But, I like mason jars or 750ml bottles for giving it away. The nice thing about the quart bottles and 750ml bottles is that they are smooth and you can print off a label to put on the bottles. I like to put “Apple Pie Moonshine” on the label along with my name and the date I brewed it.
Put a label on it!
The date I brewed it is important, so you know how long it has been in the frig. By the way, you need to keep this in the refrigerator. I don’t know the length of time you should keep it around, but I’ve had it three years out and it was still just as tasty and I didn’t get sick. However, I don’t recommend you keep it much beyond 2-4 months.
Enjoy All Year Round
While this may seem like a fall or winter drink, you can have a sip any time of year. I've served this warm at a bonfire and around the Christmas tree. But, I've also had plenty of fun sharing this straight out of the bottle floating down the river on a hot summer day.
